Beer-minton is fun!

The fall

You know, beerminton is a dangerous sport...you must never spill your beer or you lose. I slipped in the hole and punched the ground with my face but I didn't spill.

Beer-minton Cup

The passing of the cup 2008. Good job Shawn!

NO Vembur!

I haven't blogged in a long while but then again I hate waiting in lines and I hate waiting for downloads. So here I am. Tofino, B.C. after a wonderful spring season planting with a great crew and putting in over 500,000 tree's. I did a few fires that went moot very quickly and camped on top of mountains. Summer was all about lake showers and van livin. Fall was all about good times in Nelson and Ymir, again spending loads of time walking all over uncharted mountain tops...Fall is all Tofino, surfing and skating and chilling in a commune at Pooles Land. What a rad guy. Now that my feet are in a permanent frozen state I'm off to Mexico to brush up on my spanish and brush off the frost on my moustache.

Arghh!

I took this earlier this year at Mt. Robson...It's a 50,000,000 year old glacier. It's melting.

Book Review: Siddhartha

Published before my mother was born (1951) and written in simplistic yet stylistic prose this novel of the spirit transcends time and place. Following a young man, Siddhartha, from a comfortable life with his family to a life of poverty and searching for enlightenment. When he tires of reaching for these pinnacles he searches farther for love. But finding love he also finds greed, wealth and sloth. He again abandons his life to poverty and simplicity and seeks the wisdom he felt near a river in his youth. Finding his place at the river he learns of suffering, rejection, peace and finally enlightenment. A must read for those searching for a higher sense.

Endgame: Book Review

What can I say about this book except that once again Derrick Jensen has crystalized what a small majority think about our destructive civilization and written it in prose that, unless you wish to deny the truth, will make you re-evalute your life, goals, and place on this planet.
In an explicit and unflinching manner we are able, with this book, to see too the very heart of our civilization problems. To the threat of living on a world without big fish (or small for that matter) in our oceans, rivers, and lakes. It reveals to us our passive and subdued methods of protest that do nothing but keep the peace amongst the people that do the most damage.
It reiterates real action. It speaks of true sustainability. If you are lucky enough to live in a country where you find this book and you notice a drastic deterioration of the landbase around you, (including the droughts, hurricanes, heat and cold snaps) please, do yourself a favor and accept we're fucked, free yourself from the shackles of civilization and read this book!

Nelson

This is my pass. It lets me snowboard everyday and I'm thankful for that.
Funny story. As usual I was heading to the hill first thing in the morning. It hadn't snowed but I had missed the last two days and I needed my fix. I stopped in at Sidewinder for some dark brewed coffee but they only had the dregs left for each of their selections...They mixed them together for me but i still felt jipped. Anyways, as I was leaving a fellow named Cory accosted me and asked if I would like to work today. "What do I have to do?" I queried. Set up stage for Blue rodeo and take it down. It would be two 4 hour shifts at a decent deal and I would get a pass. So since it wasn't prime snow I accepted. I dropped Jeff off back at home (he was to hungover to snowboard anyways) and went to the rink to set up. The day turned out to be a real piece of cake and the show was slightly interesting with a few good riffs. Otherwise, it snowed most of the day and the next day we hit fresh powder all day long!
