These (there were two) cubs were no bigger than a large house cat. The mother was small and scraggly and looked under nourished. They were right off the side of the logging road. Everyday the crew and I wake, work and head home together seeing nothing but the bush and our beds. Come the weekend if we decide to head into a town it is always surprising to be amongst people, buildings, roads and civilization again. It is a constant and luminous reminder of our nature compared to "the uncarved block" nature "as is". Seeing these wild animals and edible mushrooms, moose, deer, cariboo, trout and century old trees comfort my mind and de-stress my life. These cubs will live everyday of there lives outside, under the stars, without facebook. Think about it. Oh, and this particular mushroom is NOT edible..

Little Birdies
The little chicky was born today or yesterday... It's mother was watching me from a little Aspen a few feet away. When I wiggled the branch the baby lifted it's head and opened it's mouth, otherwise it looked like chewed bubble gum. These, and the open sky, are some of the reasons I do what I do. The bear above was a little cub probably from a brown bear..It had a very blond hue to it's coat. We waited for the mother safe in the confines of the pick-up but she never came. Earlier that day I was startled by a little baby Black bear walking out of the woods 6 feet in front of me. When it saw me it did a little jump and ran off the way it came from.

Plant a tree
Planting has begun. Spring has turned to summer (un-officially of course). The bugs are coming out in full force. We have worked two of our 6 shifts, 11 days in total. We have planted close to 150,000 trees and are going to plant at least 450,000 more before we see the end. My crew is very different this year. It is a mixed bag consisting of 25 year vets age 47 to an 18 year old rookie who just can't figure it out yet. In between there is a 45 year old Czechoslovakian named Miroslav (Miro for short) that lives on a farm without water or electricity and hunts meat to stay alive, he is perpetually drinking vodka and plants 1000 trees a day then lays down and smokes cigarettes. Bruce is my age, about 5 feet tall and constantly positive and filled with energy. He talks like surfer and starts most of his sentences with "Dude, man..." He bounces around shadow boxing in between bag-ups and after planting sometimes goes to the gym. Lori Anne is the 47 year old who has been planting for 25 years. She plants 2000 trees a day consistently, does kung-fu at 1:00 in the morning and talks to herself more than anyone else. I drive to work with these three everyday at 6:30 in the morning and drop them off at the same time at night. I enjoy this crew as they all live in town, are independent and need less baby-sitting than previous years which gives me more time to myself and makes things less stressful. The weather has been good, so far we have kept dry but this week is calling for some rain so we'll see. The rest of the province is hot and mainly dry which means more fires this year so keeping busy for sure. I hope all who read this are well and know that I miss everyone I cannot be with who has helped shape my life thus far. Everyone I've met. So take it easy, enjoy the rituals of life, and try to find the way back to peace and freedom. Love one and all. -Will

Garlic and Oregano
So it's been ten days plus the months following of sickness...I guess i should go to a real doctor instead of self prescribing myself via the internet. I go to the real doctor, pay 60 bucks, and he swabs my throat and makes me piss in a cup. That's it that's all. Well I guess I'll keep suffering with this throat sore that is ruining my waking life with a constant reminder of pain. I guess I won't diagnose myself anymore because the doctor says that's bad. Does he recommend any medications for me? No. Does he recommend a change in diet? No. All he says is call Tuesday to find out the swab results and you don't have diabetes according to your urine. Thanks.....
I buy some throat lozenges, some throat gel (natural and benadryl), some pain killers, some cold FX, some zinc. They all did little but mask the symptoms for a insignificant amount of time. Finally I came to my senses...actually my subconscious did. I dreamed a little dream about a lot of garlic. So I went out the next day after class and bought me some garlic bulbs, garlic butter and some bread. I also got some oil of oregano. Later that night I had a garlic dinner with oregano drink and the next morning 95% of the painful symptoms were gone...I'm coughing a little and voiding a lot of mucus but that means I'm getting better.
I guess the lesson here is to follow your dreams and take Oil of Oregano.

I have abrubtly stopped my cleanse due to a love for food. My right ear, throat and muscle in my jaw are my newest physical manifestations of pain. What is the root of these repeated attacks? When will it end? Is there a doctor in the house?
When I think about the dollar I think about the economy. I think about the 1.1 billion people in china and 1.2 billion people in India and the 240 million people in the US vying for a piece of the big huckleberry pie. Many are getting their pieces too. I have recently been thinking of ways to earn some moula and find it stressful and depressing. My plans all seem like scheme's because I must convince a person to want something they don't need or I must do the very dirty work another person does not want to do. And all to read a book in peace, watch the changing of the light, feel the temperature of the air and eat the fruits of the earth. The system works for everybody that wishes it to work for them in as much as the system can give. However, being in the system lacks one vital element. It lacks, if I may propose, The Truth and Transparency in the web of products and culture we are creating, buying and selling. What do I mean? Quickly; When a person buys a car they are being sold power, safety, status, and a way to be free. They are getting metal, mined from a beautiful countryside or mountain, plastic, and a residual bill for continued wars and ecological rape. Got Air?
If we want a labtop, TV, cellphone, car, big house and buffet of food what then can we expect from our children and our children's children, the same? What can we expect of other nations? We here in the Empire of America are blind to our own self-perpetuating, spiritually lost, destructive culture. Blind or confused. We are not happier than when we had less gadgets, the internet and global business. We are not happier with more money. We are happy when we choose to recognize and are conscious of the fact that we are alive now at this very moment in this special time very briefly and that everything we do and every action we take is a very important one.
But we soon forget those instances and are bombarded on all sides by the influences of different thoughts based on a hidden agenda. "Believe and buy!"
My point, I guess, is that if you're like me and tired of working and living in this make believe world simply don't believe it and make your own...But make it simple, and positive and know when enough is enough.
...and that's enough...for meow.

April 6th 2010 6:19 p.m. e.s.t.
Time is a lot of numbers, as words are a lot of letters. It is up to us to make something of either. To disconnect from everything is as dangerous as connecting to too many things. It must be measured and balanced, balanced and measured.
It was Easter for little children and salesmen, both were happy. The sun has been shining and spring has budded. Days are longer, the way it has always been on this parallel. Spring is special because it represents life. We never get tired of the comfort or sight of the sun after the winter. The sun is a good thing to everybody here in Canada. Like our many fresh water lakes and abundant wildlife it nourishes our soul. Oh Canada! (the land not the politics)
wIll has been sick. Sick with Pneumonia, flu, cold, sore throat, coughing, parasites! My immune system has gone down in a T.K.O. and the count is eight. But there is light at the end of the tunnel and I will emerge....hopefully. I have eaten only blueberries for three days straight and I am working on a lemonade cleanse as I write, Lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne and fresh water to my left. It's a tasty concoction for a single drink maybe but I have to drink this for 5 days, nothing else.
Tree-planting creeping up in 3 weeks, the merry-go-round is sounding on. One more year of drifting on the open sea, the only difference; A mate. So with extra strength to steer the vessel I can focus on horizons yet imagined. The open sky as our roof we aim for beaches and friendly natives.
Love all, Love you all.

Salsa
Twenty Nine and Feeling Fine!
Happy Birthday to myself....Everyday I get older, so do you. It's a comforting thought.
No more learning, no more problems.
How much difference between Yes and No?
Between Black and Grey?
Between good and evil?
What others fear I must fear--
No point!
People are smiling,
as if at a kitchen party
I am stoic, passive, giving no sign
Like a baby who has not yet smiled
hopeless, as if I had no home.
Others have enough and more,
I do not.
I have the mind of a fool,
confused, confused.
Others are bright and intelligent,
I am boring, dull,
Drifting on the breeze,
blown about endlessly.
Others have plans,
I alone am wayward and stubborn,
I alone am different from others,
Like a baby in a womb.
