To: Mum

Here's a photo of me in December 2010 coming out of the ocean after swimming with pregnant turtles. It was a little startling when it was murky and a turtle would bump into you or swim by your face really close. You can't see them all but there were probably 1000 on the beach and an equal amount in the ocean popping their heads up once in a while, waiting to come ashore.

Silver

In November Silver was 27 dollars a troy ounce. Today, 5 months later, it is 37 dollars and still climbing. Why is it climbing? Many reasons. It is real, useful and a standard, much older, form of money/trade, 1 bar of silver = one cow and vise versa. Unlike today's credits and fiat currency -meaning not backed by anything, or fake - paper or plastic, this metal for whatever historic reason holds agreed upon value. Silver is so cheap these days for many reasons but the main one is the cheap source of fuel (oil) we HAD to mine the metal.

-In earlier times, silver has commanded much higher prices. In the early 15th century, the price of silver is estimated to have surpassed $800 per ounce, based on 1998 dollars.- wiki

If you had left the same amount of "cash" in the bank for five months you would have accrued approx. 5 dollars (which only 1/3rd of will actually BE at the bank). Im just saying...As our government prints whatever it needs the rest of the world gets poorer and more oppressed as do those below extreme wealth. And if you have been forced to go hungry, eating nothing for 1 day, you will know your extremities, how your self-ascribed positive attitude is based mainly on a full belly and the knowledge of a forth-coming meal, not to mention a hot shower, hot water, a rarely empty fridge. Eureka! We reach real value; health, food, clean water. We used to go by silver standard, then gold, then we turned it to oil standard but the FOOD STANDARD was there before silver or gold and is always the first naturally re-instated after a major crisis. This is the real currency that matters. The base of our control, whether we realize it or not, is food/health, not money, in making us happy productive citizens that are full and comfortable all the time. It is agri-corporations, business and politics that all profit from this induced state and we the citizens can hardly complain, I mean, who doesn't like chocolate peanut butter cheesecake in the middle of the night?. All Im saying is that The cultural gorge between our food and us is dangerously wide, and our vain sense of entitlement will only get one so far. How much is clean water worth? Clean soil? Clean air? With nuclear explosions, tar sand development and gigantic oil spills is the price rising in your mind?

When I lived in the Philippines for those two months and now believe was close to dying a few times including almost being burned to death (totally different story), I saw first hand the value of food. There were no restaurants or food stores. The town had the minimum amount of dry and canned product and all fresh meat was brought in once a day from the ocean, if that often. In luck the elder lady of my little bedhouse was a wealthy lady indeed. She had the most fields of coconut and rice. She mentioned to me that people are constantly asking her for rice and she "sometimes gives it but cannot give it all". As I'm sure you've heard commodities like wheat, rice and flour are all going up, some close to doubling their price per kilo from last year at this time. And these prices, I predict, will rise to the top of the peak before it is clear we are heading down for a swift swift bump? and like everything else, return to worthless numbers on a screen. But just before that vital moment if you have the things of real value and worth by your side...well, then you've chosen wisely.

So I mention silver as an investment only if your other bases are covered and you are doing nothing more with those numbers on the computer than watching them rack up penny's you will never spend or are worthless due to inflation. Plus a giant bar of silver makes a great paper weight.

Of course, This coming from a guy who lives predominately a nomadic life may seem strange. But let me assure you I am watching the face of this wave form, watching it section and curl, getting in the barrel...
I guess we can only watch and wait and see...and slowly poison the planet. Which brings me to my next topic: Activists - Are they working in vain? Lets get Extreme!

Thanks for reading.

White Water Wafting

Yup...I almost died...again.

8 stitches bitches

If you are walking to the bathroom in the middle of a moonless and starless night and step on someones face and need to save yourself from falling down a 10 foot hole and crushing that persons face to a pulp and lean to far to the right and slice open your forearm and need 8 stitches then it's nice to have a beautiful doctor on hand to help you fix yourself up.
